Workplace Health & Safety Manager
Cook Shire Council is looking for a professional, passionate and engaging WHS Manager to deliver service excellence across all facets of the organisation with a high level of customer service; agility and creativity.
Reporting to Council's Executive Manager, People and Performance you will lead from the front and play a key role in facilitating and shaping Council's safety culture through strong leadership and stakeholder management.

What you'll be doing
- Provide strong leadership to WHS team, including coordination of activities, mentoring and capacity building.
- Provide expert advice and support to management and employees across the organisation.
- Work collaboratively with the organisation to promote, develop and foster a safety culture.
- Develop, implement, manage and review WHS management system including policies, procedures and systems.
- Ensure Council's compliance function is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Ensure rigorous health and safety audits, inspections and investigations are carried out in a efficient and timely manner.
- Prepare complex reports and present to a wide range of audiences.
- Complement Council's Executive Leadership Team through strong leadership and expertise.
- Travel to remote communities within the Cook Shire Council area and overnight stays.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor degree or higher qualification in health and safety.
- Minimum 5 year relevant practice experience in WHS Manager, preferably in local government environment.
- Extension experience in collaboration and stakeholder management.
- Experience in psychological safety.
- Strong organisational, planning and attention to detail skills.
- A strategic and values led leader and enabler.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication including presentation skills.
- Can-do attitude with a commitment to the achievement of Council outcomes.
- Strong commitment to confidentiality and a high degree of integrity and work ethic.
- Proficiency in MS Office and data management programs.
- Current Construction White Card.
- A current QLD Driver’s Licence.
