Safety and Training Advisor (Maternity Leave Contract - up to 12 months)

What you'll be doing
- Develop, implement and maintain Council's safety management system in consultation with WHS Manager and key stakeholders.
- Identify and monitor relevant WHS legislation; codes of practice and guidelines.
- Assist with the facilitation and coordination of Council's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
- Ensure systems and registers are up to date and maintained.
- Assist with accidents, incidents and hazard investigations.
- Coordinate internal safety audits.
- Assist with the administration of workers' compensation claims, rehabilitation and return to work programs.
- Assist with job and workplace redesign.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct workplace health and safety training and inductions.
- Coordinate WHS Committee meetings and manage associated administration.
- Provide guidance, advice and support to all employees.
- Travel to remote communities within Cook Shire Council area and overnight stays
What we're looking for
- Certificate IV or higher qualification in Work Health and Safety and/or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience.
- High level communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service and agility skills.
- Sound analytical skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and data management programs.
- Current Construction White Card.
- A current QLD Driver’s Licence.
