Civil Works Plant Operator
Cook Shire Council is seeking a motivated and skilled Civil Works Plant Operator to join our Infrastructure team. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and constructing roads, drainage, and other civil infrastructure across Cooktown and surrounding areas.
You will be responsible for the safe and competent operation of heavy plant machinery as well as performing general labouring duties. You’ll work as part of a team to deliver quality outcomes for our community while maintaining a strong focus on workplace health and safety.

What you'll be doing
- Operate heavy plant (grader, excavator, roller, dozer, backhoe, loader, water truck) safely and efficiently.
- Carry out labouring tasks and using powered tools.
- Conduct daily pre-start and routine plant servicing and safety checks.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and productive work environment.
- Work in remote areas and travel when required, including occasional camping away
What we're looking for
- Demonstrated experience in civil construction plant operations.
- Certificates of Competency / licences for multiple plant items.
- Current HC Driver’s Licence.
- General Construction Safety White Card.
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments with a strong safety focus.
- Tickets in Traffic Management Implementation and Working Near Overhead Powerlines (or willingness to obtain)
