Shape compliance and governance outcomes in one of Queensland’s most unique regions

Cook Shire Council is seeking an experienced compliance, regulatory or property professional to join our Planning and Environment team in Cooktown.

This is a rare opportunity to take a lead coordination role across development compliance, Council property tenure and lease functions — with the support of an established team and the scope to drive stronger systems, consistency and best-practice outcomes.

Whether your background is in compliance investigations, regulatory services, property portfolios or land tenure — we encourage you to apply.

About the Role

As the Property and Development Compliance Coordinator you will:

  • Coordinate development compliance case management across building, plumbing and planning matters
  • Support fair, consistent and practical enforcement outcomes in partnership with Council’s compliance team
  • Oversee Council’s residential tenancy and lease portfolio, including staff housing
  • Work collaboratively on land tenure matters, including trustee leases and culturally appropriate outcomes
  • Mentor and support a small team while improving systems, registers and processes

This role plays a key part in improving service delivery, governance and consistency across interrelated compliance and property functions

We are seeking a motivated professional with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Development or regulatory compliance
  • Investigations, enforcement or statutory decision-making
  • Property, leasing or tenure administration in a government setting
  • Stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution
  • Leadership, mentoring or team coordination
  • Systems and process improvement mindset

Relevant qualifications are valued, however demonstrated experience and willingness to learn are equally important. Training and professional development support is available
