Project Engineer
Cook Shire Council is seeking a motivated and qualified Project Engineer to join our Infrastructure team.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of Council’s capital works and major maintenance projects across the region.
You’ll be responsible for planning, managing and delivering a variety of civil engineering projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time and within budget.

What you'll be doing
- Lead and manage capital works and maintenance projects from initiation to completion.
- Prepare project plans, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments.
- Oversee contractor performance, ensuring compliance with specifications and WHS standards.
- Monitor project budgets and prepare monthly financial and progress reports.
- Contribute to the development of Council’s infrastructure strategies and capital works programs.
- Prepare and review funding submissions, contracts, and technical documentation.
- Liaise with key stakeholders including consultants, contractors, and government agencies.
- Provide specialist engineering advice to management and Councillors.
What we're looking for
- A degree in Project Management and/or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- Proven experience in project management and civil construction, ideally within local government.
- Strong knowledge of contract management, tendering, and cost control.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project management tools.
- Current “C” Class Queensland Driver’s Licence.
Desirable
- RPEQ registration (or eligibility to obtain).
- Current Construction White Card.
- Experience in local government project delivery.
