Recreation Facilities Coordinator
Bring energy, leadership and community spirit to one of Far North Queensland’s most dynamic venues!
The Cooktown Events Centre is more than a building – it’s the heart of our community. It’s where fitness meets fun, where concerts, sports and celebrations come to life, and where locals gather to connect, move and thrive.
We’re looking for a driven and enthusiastic Recreation Facilities Coordinator to lead the operation and strategic direction of this vibrant hub — including the Events Centre, gym, meeting spaces, indoor sports courts, performance stage, kiosk and commercial kitchen — as well as the Cooktown Community Swimming Pool and sport and recreation programs across the region.
If you’re a natural leader who loves community engagement, thrives on variety and has a flair for turning great ideas into great experiences, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact!
What you’ll do
- Lead daily operations of the Cooktown Events Centre and Community Swimming Pool, ensuring excellence across fitness, sports, recreation and events.
- Develop innovative community programs that bring people together – from youth activities and fitness classes to cultural events and senior programs.
- Build partnerships with schools, community groups, local businesses and organisations to promote active, healthy living.
- Oversee budgets, membership growth and financial performance, identifying new ways to increase participation and revenue.
- Champion safety, accessibility and inclusion across all facilities.
- Lead and inspire a passionate team dedicated to delivering outstanding service to the Cooktown community.
About you
You’re an energetic and community-focused professional with:
- Qualifications in business, event or recreation management (postgraduate desirable).
- Proven leadership in managing sport, recreation or community facilities.
- Strong financial, operational and safety management experience.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and passion for community development.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A current Queensland “C” Class Driver’s Licence is required.
- A current Queensland Working with Children Blue Card (mandatory).
Why you’ll love working with us
At Cook Shire Council, you’ll join a close-knit, community-minded team making a real difference. You’ll work in one of Australia’s most naturally beautiful regions, where every day brings something new. From high-energy sporting events to community celebrations, your work will help shape an active, inclusive and connected Cooktown.
You’ll also enjoy
- Competitive pay and great work-life balance.
- Opportunities for professional growth and training.
- A supportive team culture built on collaboration and respect.
