This is a trusted, hands-on role—perfect for someone who thrives working independently and wants to make a visible impact every day.
Located at the gateway to Cape York, Lakeland and Laura are small, vibrant communities surrounded by some of Australia’s most unique landscapes. Lakeland is a growing rural hub known for its agricultural innovation, stunning mountain ranges and welcoming local spirit.
Just a 45-minute drive north, Laura is rich in history and cultural significance, home to world-renowned rock art sites and the iconic Laura Dance Festival. Both towns offer a peaceful lifestyle, strong community connection and the opportunity to work in environments that are as rewarding as they are beautiful.

- Tuesday to Saturday roster, with an RDO every second Tuesday
- A highly autonomous role in a remote environment where honesty, initiative and reliability are essential
- Regular travel required between Lakeland and Laura (approx. 45 minutes apart), so applicants must be comfortable commuting as part of normal duties
What You’ll Be Doing:
As the Town Agent, you’ll help keep the Laura township clean, safe and welcoming while also supporting waste management operations at both Laura and Lakeland. Your tasks may include:
- Maintaining parks, road reserves and public spaces
- Cleaning and restocking public amenities
- Mowing, whipper snipping, pruning and vegetation management
- Operating tools, plant and equipment
- Opening, closing and overseeing daily operations of Waste Transfer Stations
- Providing friendly and helpful customer service to residents and visitors
- Supporting recycling and resource recovery initiatives
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting hazards or defects
About You:
- Honest, dependable and self-motivated
- Comfortable working alone and making sound decisions
- Physically capable and enjoy outdoor, practical work
- Confident communicating with community members
- Willing and able to travel between Lakeland and Laura regularly
- Hold a valid Qld Class 'C' Driver’s Licence
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain safe work practices
Desirable skills (or willingness to learn):
- Mowing/machinery experience
- Weed control and herbicide application
- White Card
