Ready to launch your career in systems, data, or GIS? Want to be part of meaningful disaster recovery work that genuinely helps local communities? This is your chance!
Cook Shire Council is seeking a motivated, curious learner to join our team as Junior DRFA Systems Support Officer — a perfect entry-level pathway for someone enthusiastic about developing technical skills and growing within a supportive team.

About the Role:

The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) program helps restore essential public assets after natural disasters — and you’ll play a key part in making that happen. In this role, you will:

Data and Admin Support
Collect and verify damage data, maintain accurate systems and registers, and assist with preparing reports and claims.

Systems & GIS Skills
Provide basic user support, assist with device and system maintenance, learn GIS mapping, and help with system updates and testing.

Training and Mentoring
Take part in structured training, learn hands-on from senior staff, and contribute to user guides and process documentation.

Team Collaboration
Work across departments, communicate clearly with colleagues and stakeholders, and build confidence as your skills grow.

About You:

You don’t need to be an expert — you just need enthusiasm, initiative and a willingness to learn. This role is ideal for a recent school leaver, someone starting their IT career, or anyone passionate about systems and data.
We'll be excited to hear from you if you have:

  • Year 12 (or equivalent) – desirable, not essential
  • A keen interest in IT, data, or GIS
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Good attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills
  • A proactive, “give-it-a-go” attitude
  • A commitment to learning
  • A current QLD Class C driver’s licence
