Cook Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Learn to Swim Program Development Officer to coordinate and grow our much-loved Learn to Swim program at the Cooktown Community Swimming Pool.
About the role
This is a hands-on, community-focused position where no two days are the same. You’ll take the lead in delivering high-quality swimming and water safety programs while supporting instructors, engaging with families and strengthening community participation.
Working approximately 20 hours per week, this part-time role is ideal for someone looking for flexibility while still making a meaningful impact.
We are looking for someone to:
- Coordinate day-to-day swim school operations, including enrolments, timetables and scheduling
- Develop and continuously improve Learn to Swim programs that meet community needs
- Lead, mentor and roster swimming instructors
- Promote water safety and encourage participation across all age groups
- Provide excellent customer service to families, schools and the wider community
- Support pool operations and step into Lifeguard or Pool Attendant duties when required
- Build strong relationships with schools, clubs and community organisations
About you
Essential:
- Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (or equivalent)
- Current First Aid & CPR certification
- Queensland Blue Card
- Experience in swim teaching, aquatic programs or a similar role
Highly Regarded:
- Pool Lifeguard qualification
- Experience supervising staff or coordinating programs
- Knowledge of aquatic facility operations and safety standards
