ICT Operations and Support Officer

Job No: CSCO157
Location: Cooktown, QLD

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Operations and Support Officer

Cook Shire Council is seeking a proactive and customer-focused ICT Operations and Support Officer to join our ICT team in beautiful Cooktown. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same — supporting staff, maintaining essential systems, and helping keep Council’s technology running smoothly across one of Queensland’s most unique regions.

If you enjoy solving problems, working with diverse technologies, and being part of a close-knit team that supports the community, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role:

As an ICT Operations and Support Officer, you will provide Level 1, 2 and (where skills allow) Level 3 ICT support to Council staff and stakeholders. You’ll play a key role in day-to-day ICT operations, asset management, and continuous improvement of systems and processes.

Your work will directly support Council services and community outcomes — from office technology to communications infrastructure across the Shire.

  • Provide high-quality Level 1, 2 and (where skills allow) Level 3 ICT support to Council staff
  • Troubleshoot and resolve ICT issues across hardware, software, networks and user accounts
  • Install, configure and support ICT hardware, software and mobile devices
  • Support and maintain Council’s communications, security and connectivity systems, including CCTV, radio and satellite infrastructure
  • Manage ICT assets, documentation and standard procedures to support efficient service delivery
  • Contribute to ICT projects, staff inductions and continuous improvement initiatives

About You:

You are a practical, solutions-focused ICT professional who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. You bring strong technical skills, excellent communication, and a genuine commitment to customer service.

You will have:

  • A relevant qualification in Information Technology or substantial experience in an ICT support environment
  • Broad knowledge of hardware, software, operating systems, networks and IT security
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office and ICT helpdesk systems
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise tasks in a busy environment
  • A current Queensland Class “C” driver licence

Why Join Cook Shire Council?

  • Fantastic work/life balance
  • Work that truly benefits your community
