Community Connections & Events Officer
Cook Shire Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Community Connections and Events Officer to play a key role in strengthening community connections, delivering vibrant events, and supporting tourism and economic development across our stunning region.
In this dynamic role, you’ll be at the heart of Cook Shire’s events, tourism initiatives, and community funding programs. Working closely with Council teams, community groups, tourism operators and stakeholders, you’ll help plan, promote and deliver events that bring people together.

What you'll be doing
- Assist with the planning, coordination and delivery of Council-supported community and tourism events
- Build strong relationships with tourism operators, community groups and event stakeholders
- Promote events and tourism opportunities through social media, Council’s website and marketing materials
- Support tourism and economic development initiatives that generate real benefits for the region
- Administer the Community and Economic Development Grants and Sponsorship Program
- Provide advice and support to applicants, assess applications, and monitor funded projects
- Coordinate event logistics including venues, permits, contractors and suppliers
- Prepare reports, correspondence, promotional content and presentations
- Ensure compliance with legislation, permits, WHS and Council policies
What we're looking for
- A qualification in Events Management (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in events, community development, tourism or local government
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Confidence working with grants, sponsorships or funding programs
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of (or a willingness to learn about) the Cook Shire community
- A current Working with Children Blue Card
- A current Queensland Class “C” Driver Licence
