Maintenance Assistant/Relief Water and Waste Operator

This is a hands-on role, suited to someone who enjoys outdoor work where you will assist with civil maintenance and asset maintenance activities and provide operational support across water supply, wastewater and landfill or waste transfer station services. You’ll play an important role in maintaining services that directly support community health, environmental outcomes and service continuity across Cook Shire, including remote communities.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Assist with maintenance, inspection and repair of Council infrastructure and assets
- Undertake general civil works including minor construction, repairs and installations
- Support preventative and corrective maintenance programs
- Operate plant, machinery, vehicles and tools safely
You will also provide relief support across key service areas, including:
- Water: monitoring systems, sampling, responding to leaks and network issues
- Wastewater: assisting with network operations, responding to blockages and faults
- Waste Services: supporting landfill and transfer site operations and customer service
About You:
- Practical, hands-on and safety-focused
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Reliable with good communication and organisational skills
- Customer-focused with a professional approach
- Civil maintenance, water/wastewater or waste operations
- Operating plant such as excavators, backhoes or forklifts
- Construction White Card
- Low Voltage Rescue (LVR) and Confined Space Entry
- Current Queensland Driver Licence (MR desirable)
