Cook Shire Council is seeking a Manager Engineering to lead its civil engineering function across a diverse and geographically significant local government area. Reporting to the Director Infrastructure, the position has responsibility for civil infrastructure, capital works, asset management, project delivery and civil operations.

Council is strengthening its approach to long-term infrastructure planning, with work underway to develop a structured three, five and ten-year capital works program. The Manager Engineering will contribute directly to this work while strengthening asset planning, project governance, forward maintenance programs and levels of service.

The position combines technical leadership with responsibility for people, service delivery and stakeholder relationships. Priorities include:

  • Providing oversight and direction across Council’s civil infrastructure and capital works programs.
  • Building capability and accountability across the Engineering and Civil Works functions.
  • Providing clear and considered technical advice to Council and Councillors.
  • Building productive relationships with the community, government agencies and regional partners.

About You

The opportunity may suit an established engineering manager or an experienced senior engineer or project leader ready to step into broader management responsibility. A practical and adaptable leadership style, sound civil engineering experience and the confidence to make considered decisions will be important. Local government experience is advantageous but not essential.

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related discipline are required. RPEQ status is desirable, with Council open to supporting the right candidate to obtain registration.
