We are excited to offer a Part Time - Fixed term position
Cook Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Sports and Recreation Officer to help reinvigorate and grow sport and recreation opportunities in Coen. — This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference in the community by rebuilding participation, reconnecting with local residents and helping create activities that people genuinely want to be part of.
What you’ll be doing:
As the Sports and Recreation Officer, you’ll deliver
- engaging after-school, adult and school holiday programs.
- Encouraging participation in sport, physical activity and wellbeing initiatives.
- Building positive relationships with children, families, adults, schools and community groups.
- Listening to the community and identifying activities that reflect local interests and needs.
- Creating a welcoming, inclusive and culturally respectful environment for everyone.
- Setting up, packing down and maintaining sporting equipment and facilities.
- Completing routine safety checks and reporting hazards or maintenance issues.
- Keeping attendance records and providing feedback on program successes and opportunities for improvement.
- Working with Council staff and community partners to deliver successful programs.
- Ensuring activities meet Council’s safety, risk management and funding requirements.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- Previous experience delivering community-based recreational programs.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Current Blue Card, or ability to obtain one prior to commencing (no card, no start laws apply).
- Friendly, energetic and genuinely passionate about community recreation.
- Confident engaging with people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Able to work independently, use initiative and follow established procedures.
- A great communicator who can build strong relationships with community members and groups.
- Comfortable leading activities and motivating participants.
- Safety-focused, reliable and organised.
- Physically capable of setting up, moving and managing sporting equipment.
- Available to work afternoons, evenings and/or weekends when programs require it.
