Are you organised, people-focused and ready for a role where your work has a genuine impact? Cook Shire Council is looking for a Housing Officer to join our Growth and Liveability team in Cooktown. This is an exciting opportunity to take responsibility for Council’s housing portfolio, supporting both staff housing and senior housing while helping ensure properties are well managed, tenants are supported, and housing allocations are fair, transparent and compliant.

What you'll be doing
Working closely with the Property and Development Compliance Coordinator, 

  • Managing Council’s staff housing portfolio, including leases, rent management and housing registers.
  • Coordinating housing allocations and providing recommendations regarding housing needs and suitability.
  • Managing applications, eligibility assessments and allocations for Council’s senior housing.
  • Administering rental agreements, including annual rent reviews and liaison with tenants and relevant organisations & Maintaining accurate housing records, leases, bonds and rental information.
  • Coordinating entry, exit and routine property inspections & coordinate maintenance, repairs and safety requirements.
  • Preparing reports relating to housing occupancy, allocations and property condition.

What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone who is extremely organised, proactive and has a high attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills & a commitment to providing a high standard of customer service.
  • Confidence managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team.
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office and records management systems.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A current Queensland Class C Driver Licence.

Experience in property management, tenancy coordination, community housing, residential property or local government would be highly regarded. & Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 (Qld) and experience coordinating property inspections and maintenance would also be advantageous.

$89,306 per annum

Leave Entitlements: 

5 weeks annual leave per annum
15 days personal leave per annum
9 day fortnight

Superannuation:

12% Superannuation contributions
