Workplace Health & Safety Manager
Cook Shire Council is looking for a professional, passionate and engaging WHS Manager to deliver service excellence across all facets of the organisation with a high level of customer service, agility and creativity.
Reporting to Council's Executive Manager People and Performance you will lead from the front and play a key role in facilitating and shaping Council's safety culture through strong leadership and stakeholder management.

Key Requirements
We are looking for an experienced WHS professional who can:
- Lead Council's Safety team, fostering their professional growth and capability.
- Influence and cultivate a positive, accountable safety culture throughout the organisation.
- Navigate complex, high risk environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of safety challenges in rural/remote settings and among a workforce that will benefit from a positive change management approach.
- Drive the development and implementation of a Safety System, cultivating a culture and commitment to the proactive reporting of incidents, hazards and near misses.
- Navigate a diverse workforce, ensuring safety practices are accessible, with regular consultation and training.
- Conduct thorough inspections and investigations, and develop a wide range of clear, concise, impartial and targeted reports and documentation. These should effectively communicate progress, trends and areas of focus to employees, the Executive Leadership Team and, when necessary, Councillors.
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor degree or higher qualification in health and safety.
- Queensland Workers Compensation Regulator Approved Training (Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator Course).
- Hold a Construction White Card.
- Minimum 5 years relevant practical experience as a WHS Manager, preferably in a local government environment.
- Experience working for Local or State Government (preferably in QLD).
